History - omicron chapter
Pi Delta Psi Fraternity, Inc. was founded at The George Washington University on November 15, 2003 by six men: Mr. William Chen, Mr. Yen-lin Alan Chen, Mr. Jeffrey Chang, Mr. Alan Jaw, Mr. Richard Chin, and Mr. Roy Guinto, Jr. These men felt that GWU, while an excellent institution, was missing a brotherhood that focused on uniting men of Asian descent, as well as those interested in Asian culture. Their goal was to bring an organization to GWU that would accomplish this goal, while at the same time providing the community with a group of men who were reliable and interested in supporting the community.
Four Pillars
The four pillars of Pi Delta Psi are Academic Achievement, Cultural Awareness, Righteousness, and Friendship/Loyalty.
Academic Achievement
We at GW realize that while empowering the Asian American community may be a noble endeavor, we must keep in mind why we're in college to begin with. Members of our chapter are involved with various honors societies, such as the Order of Omega and Phi Beta Kappa.
Cultural Awareness
From cultural cook-outs (a yearly, university-wide event inspired by the notorious Iron Chef program) to greasing ourselves up for culture shows, we do whatever it takes to send a strong message: though we may be a minority group, the Asian-American community refuses to be cast into the stereotypical mold of passivity.
Righteousness
The George Washington University Omicron Chapter focuses upon its surrounding areas needs as well as concern for national causes. Since the chapter's inception in 2003 we have started and participated in a plethora of philanthropy events. Included within these events includes a weekly PB+J sandwich making event which replenishes the depleted reserves within Martha's Table, a local food bank. Another event which we participate yearly in is the Washington Aids Walk to help raise money to find a cure for AIDS. Also, we have been directly involved in the past with aiding displaced Katrina victims: we held a PB+J event for Katrina refugees in DC's Arsenal. Through hosting and participating in events in DC we help those in need around us and beyond. Much like Batman, we will continue in our pursuit for a better world through service.
Friendship & Loyalty
Our chapter believes that when it comes down to it, this is what it's all about. Through thick and thin, through the highs and the lows, this pillar stands firm through it all. This theory is tried and true on a daily basis as we live our lives, together. From the outside looking in, especially at the way we take care of each other and the way we work together at events, you may be fooled into thinking that we're of the same blood; genetically grouped together before we event took in our first breaths, destined to coexist. But the brotherhood within this chapter and across the nation, the one that we all share and hold close to our hearts isn't of blood. It's much thicker than that.
